MWI Animal Health UK Maintains Operational Effectiveness During COVID-19 to Ensure Continuity of Care

CASTLE CARY, Somerset (May 1, 2020) – To slow the spread and impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), governments around the world have taken measures to encourage social distancing and close non-essential businesses. While these companies, schools and public venues remain closed, critical infrastructure such as hospitals, pharmacies and even veterinary clinics remain open for the health and safety of the communities they serve. MWI Animal Health UK, a part of AmerisourceBergen and a leading distributor of animal health products across the United Kingdom, is responsible for powering the animal health supply chain and ensuring that veterinary clinics and livestock producers can continue to operate no matter the circumstance.

Veterinarians and livestock producers are a critical component of the global health community and provide vital healthcare to companion animals, help maintain a stable food supply, and provide necessary public health monitoring and management of possible animal illnesses. To support these essential businesses, MWI continues to provide best-in-class support that will enable customers to stay focused on caring for pets and livestock.

“At MWI we believe it is truly our responsibility to create healthier futures. In today’s climate, that means channelling all of our energy and resources to ensure the operation of our critical facilities and the health and safety of our colleagues who work in them so that we can keep the supply chain moving and support the needs of customers as they continue to care for animals,” said David Tinsley, Managing Director, MWI Animal Health UK. “It is because of the work of our associates that veterinary clinics and livestock producers will continue to receive the medications and treatments they and their patients depend upon. It is our role and responsibility to support customers as they deliver critical care and drive improved outcomes, and we are proud to continue our unwavering support during this time.”

MWI Animal Health UK operates two warehouses in Castle Cary and the Midlands, which house medical products that are delivered to veterinary practices and agricultural facilities. Clinics and farms of all sizes across the United Kingdom rely on the company to provide timely access to the products they need on a daily basis. The operation of MWI’s two warehouses creates capacity to ensure product availability while buffering against business continuity challenges that could occur – such as a pandemic – to ensure that practices and their patients can continue to access vital products when and where they need them.

To ensure the continued safety of distribution centre and warehouse associates, MWI Animal Health UK has put into place stringent cleaning procedures to ensure that nothing is being done that could cause any additional strain on the system or community.  These efforts include a continuous cycle of sanitization as well as adopting additional hygiene operatives. Safe zone areas have been established at each location, so no vendor enters the building, and increased screening measures for visitors, couriers and partners have been enacted. All non-critical vendors are prohibited from entering the facilities, and MWI Animal Health UK continues to partner closely with couriers to ensure the safety of their drivers and associates.

To help support customers manage their day-to-day operations, MWI Animal Health UK also offers cloud-based practice management software that reduces administrative tasks and gives clinics more time to focus on providing the best possible animal care. The technology enables practices to virtually monitor and update patient records, appointments, insurance claims and more. MWI Animal Health UK is also accelerating the development of their pharmacy home delivery service for veterinarian practices, which has become critically important during COVID-19 when social distancing measures are encouraged.
